Boris Becker reveals what should be the next goal for Alexander Zverev

In a recent interview with Eurosport, former World No.1 Boris Becker believes that after his recent success, Zverev should now eye the World No.1 spot. However, the German legend stated that it would only be possible if he wins one or two Grand Slam titles next year.

“The next big goal for Sascha Zverev has to be the number one. He can make it next year in my eyes. But that’s only possible if he wins one or two Grand Slam tournaments,” said Becker.

Becker even ranked Djokovic, Zverev, and Medvedev based on their performance this year. He highlighted that since Nole enjoyed three Grand Slam wins while Medvedev won the US Open, they played better than Zverev this season.

“You saw it this year: the clear number one was Djokovic with three Grand Slam wins, the clear number two was Medvedev with one Grand Slam win and the clear number three was Sascha,” added former German player.

“Next big triumph has to be a victory at a Grand Slam”- Becker on Zverev

In the same interview, Becker pointed out that even though Zverev’s ATP Finals win and Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 are great achievements, he now has to aim higher and has to succeed at the Grand Slams. He feels that after that only, he can rise to the No.1 spot in the ATP rankings. He also disclosed that he wants Sascha to become the most successful German tennis player.

“Certainly, an ATP Finals title is an absolute highlight in one’s career – he has won that twice – and victory at the Olympics was certainly unique, but the next big triumph has to be a victory at a Grand Slam tournament. Then you get closer to your dream… I would like him to become the most successful German player of all time. Then we would have a lot to celebrate and we would have a tennis boom in Germany again,”concluded the 6-time Grand Slam champion.
The 2021 season is over for Alexander Zverev since he won’t be taking part in the Davis Cup Finals 2021. Will he be able to win his maiden Grand Slam title next year?
