His form started dwindling, and many wondered if he would manage to play in the ATP Finals. Boris Becker eventually picked up the task of coaching the young Dane, and many now believe that Becker will help the player move ahead. While discussing his possibilities with Rune, his work with Novak Djokovic was also praised.

Rune has been taking advantage of receiving advice from the six-time grand slam champion. However, before the ATP Finals began, Rune met his former student, the 24-time grand slam champion, and the three shared a picture of their discussion.

Boris Becker’s undeniable work with Novak Djokovic

Jim Courier, former number 1 and four-time grand slam champion, talked in the recent edition of the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast. Courier talked about various topics in modern tennis. The American legend praised Boris Becker’s work with Novak Djokovic, saying that when the two joined hands, Djokovic was a fully formed player. Therefore, Becker had to help him manage the stress and expectations in the finals of major tournaments.   

Holger’s gonna respect Boris and he’s going to know that Boris did amazing work with Djokovic. Djokovic was a player who was fully formed at that point, but was struggling to manage pressure and expectation in the major finals. And Boris helped him unequivocally get past that. Yeah, became the player he is today because he and Boris linked up.”

Given the number of slams Djokovic won after linking up with him, one cannot deny the effect of Becker on the Serbinator. He also talked about how Rune could benefit from Becker, but he was a completely different project for the German coach. Djokovic came to him fully formed, while Rune still has a lot of work left.

This is a different project. Holger Rune needs a lot of work in a lot of different areas. I would think it’s extremely exciting for Boris to have a chance to help shape not just the mindset but also the strategy and fill out some holes in the game and make sure that everything is looked after. It’s a great opportunity for both of them.”

Holger has a golden chance to improve with Becker as the German coach will mold Rune into his best form. The 20-year-old star is gaining advice from some of the most star-studded players in the sport. However, how he applies to his sport is yet to be seen.
