Nick Kyrgios opens up about Kokkinakis’ rough times
Kyrgios is currently competing at Wimbledon and is into the quarter-finals. However, this isn’t the only slam in which he has shown his mantle. Earlier this year, Nick won the Australian Open men’s doubles title with his partner in crime, Thanasi Kokkinakis. They were the crowd favorites, but not many expected them to actually go all the way. Kyrgios opened up about his friendship with Kokkinakis in an interview before Wimbledon.
In the interview, Kyrgios spoke about a variety of things, along with how his friend was engulfed with financial issues during his injury phase. And said, “Thanasi has been through so much. He’s been through so much with his injuries. He wanted to stop playing tennis because he was making no money.”

“Like that’s the thing you think that he was making good money when he was injured. But the travel, the coaches, everything kinda builds up. I am so proud of how far he has come as well. Because young know something breaks someone down to tears, you know it hurts him.” He added.

Thanasi Kokkinakis made an appearance at Wimbledon as well where he recorded his first win ever. However, he lost to Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the second round. The 27-year-old will meet Cristian Garin, the current Chilean No. 1 player in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. Garin’s best performance for this year came at ATP Houston, where he made up to the semifinals. In the case of grass-based tournaments, he incurred first-round defeat in both Halle Open and Eastbourne International.
