At the mere age of 20, the tennis phenom, Carlos Alcaraz, is already pulling off a number of incredible feats on the court. Having already reached the number 1 spot in the men’s circuit, the Spaniard recently stunned the entire tennis realm by defeating one of the most resounding figures on the Centre Court, Novak Djokovic. In the process, the young tennis star has put an end to the 7-time Wimbledon champion’s decade-long supremacy in the grass-court major in London.

Taking note of his remarkable triumph, many in the tennis community believe it is the start of a new era on the ATP Tour. Ivanisevic, Djokovic’s coach, though, recently declined to entertain the talk, calling it “a bit stupid”. However, another prominent figure, Andy Murray, disagrees with the Croatian coach’s blunt remarks, as he has now come forward to issue a bold assertion about the change of generation in the men’s circuit.

Andy Murray has an opposing viewpoint to Novak Djokovic’s coach

In a recent interview with Sportske Novosti, as reported by express.co.uk, the 51-year-old coach said that the talks about the changing of a guard on the men’s tour are a “bit stupid”. Ivanisevic believes it has been going on for six or seven years already, as other young talents like Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev have been playing for a longer period than their adversary, Alcaraz.

On the contrary, the former world No. 1, Andy Murray, has recently asserted that the new generation on the ATP Tour has now arrived. In an interview with The Times, the 36-year-old tennis legend emphasized the Spaniard’s recent triumph in the British Slam, labeling it as the change of the generation. He said, “You could argue it’s the start of a new era”.

Meanwhile, the British tennis star also didn’t hold himself back from lavishing praise on his young Spanish colleague. He asserted that it is quite wonderful to watch Alcaraz play with a lot of freedom on the court.

Apart from Murray and Ivanisevic, the reigning Wimbledon champion himself has commented on the idea of a new era in the men’s circuit.

Alcaraz candidly spoke about his views on the changing of a guard

Right after his victory in the grass major event, the young Spaniard was asked if his triumph marks the start of a new era on the ATP Tour. In his direct response, the 20-year-old made it clear that he did it for himself and not for a change of guard in the tennis circuit. A few days later, Alcaraz was once again asked to express his views on the same during an interview with Marca. He responded in an interesting way, claiming that a new era won’t begin until tennis greats Djokovic and Nadal are there on the tour.
