While Tennis Australia’s CEO Craig Tiley tried to hype the hopes of the fans, he now finds himself facing the aftermath.

It was Craig Tiley who first announced Rafael Nadal’s confirmed presence at the Australian Open. While his announcement came days before Rafa’s final confirmation, the CEO currently finds himself in a situation where fans are refusing to trust him.

In a recent turn of events, Tiley announced that fans could see the Spaniard playing in the next year’s event. “He will be ready in February, hopefully, and I wish him well. I just told him we’re looking forward to seeing him in January 2025. He didn’t say no, his reaction was ‘if I’m playing, feeling good, and not injured, I’ll be back,’” said Tiley

Soon after the update caught the attention of fans on social media, they didn’t seem to be in the mood to believe the words of Tiley. Instead, all they had was hate and a strong feeling of disbelief for him. A fan, calling all of Tiley’s announcements as just marketing moves, said, “Tiley just uses Rafa as he knows no one currently sells more tickets than him.”

Another fan, simply stating his lack of trust for the CEO, said, “I don’t trust Tiley.” It is only natural for fans to feel this way. They are still recovering from the devastating news of Rafa’s withdrawal from the Australian Open, and in this situation, the last thing they need is more hope.

Another fan, reflecting on the perspective that Tiley does all of these announcements for higher sales, wrote, “Tiley is doing everything to sell the ticket.”

As the trail of comments against Tiley’s recent remarks continued, a fan came forward with the fact that it is hard to believe anything he says. He wrote, “Who in their right mind believes anything Tiley has to say?”

Another fan, emphasizing Rafael Nadal’s absence in 2023, wrote, “bro can’t even play in 2023, you think he’ll play in 2025? delulu”

With these and several other comments against Craig Tiley’s recent response, it seems like the fans have lost faith in him. Along with that, the comments also showed a side of the fans that is hurt because of Rafa’s sudden pullback from the tournament.

A good news on Rafa’s comeback

Besides Craig Tiley’s words which do not seem to have enough credibility now, Alex Corretja recently showed up with a positive update on Rafael Nadal. As the fellow Spaniard spoke on Nadal’s current situation, he highlighted the fact that the legend is willing to be back, “as soon as possible.”

Corretja also highlighted the fact that the recent injury that Nadal incurred in Brisbane was just a micro tear in the muscle, mentioning that it is “good news”. As the fans now look forward to witnessing the Australian Open without Rafa’s presence, a side of them is still waiting to see the legend play again.
