Once regarded by many as an upcoming tennis sensation, Grigor Dimitrov failed to stand up to the expectations of pundits and fans alike. The 32-year-old player, who is in the penultimate years of his career, is currently gearing up for the Chengdu Open in China. However, just days before the start of the tournament, there is a new side of Dimitrov, not known to many, revealed. After finalizing his preparations ahead of the start, Grigor Dimitrov and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic embarked on an intriguing journey into China’s rich martial arts culture.

However, while making the most of his love for the arts, he revealed his longtime admiration for actor Jackie Chan, who has been an exception in the martial arts world.

Grigor Dimitrov comes out as an ardent Jackie Chan fan

As Grigor Dimitrov and Miomir Kecmanovic geared up for the Chinese hard-court swing at the Chengdu Open, they decided to dive headfirst into the country’s rich martial arts culture by trying their hand at kung fu. While both tennis stars enjoyed watching kung fu masters demonstrate various styles of ancient Chinese art, it was Dimitrov’s unexpected revelation that stole the spotlight.

Dimitrov, known for his athleticism and tennis prowess, playfully confessed, “I’m a big fan of kung fu, but I don’t think I did very well today. I think it’s an amazing art, and I’m such a huge Jackie Chan fan, so it was nice to experience that a little and hopefully one day I will have the chance to explore more of it. Doing the standing poses was really fun.” This revelation showcased Dimitrov’s fun-loving nature off the tennis courts.

Kecmanovic, on the other hand, shared his appreciation for the art’s difficulty and expressed his enjoyment of replicating the iconic kung fu poses. While Grigor Dimitrov showed his love for the ancient tactics, Kecmanovic offered his insights on the same.

Miomir Kecmanovic considers martial arts to be difficult

In the same interview, Kecmanovic said that he had never tried the sport and watching it live for the first time, he found it to be more difficult than it actually seemed. “I never got to try kung fu before and I see now that it’s actually very difficult and not as easy as they make it look,” said Kecmanovic.

However, just like Grigor, he went ahead to express his feelings and said that he really had a great time with Grigor practising martial arts and would love to do more someday. Thus, these insights from the players reflect on the technicality that martial arts have.

However, being an ardent Jackie Chan fan, Grigor Dimitrov enjoyed the best of times while hoping to learn more about the ancient art in the near future.
