In the past, he had memorable battles against the big three, especially with Roger Federer. He managed to beat the Swiss Maestro three times in his career. His most famous win came at the 2016 Wimbledon when he stunned Federer in the semi-final in a sensational five-set contest. Following this win, he became the first-ever Canadian player to reach the final of Wimbledon.

Earlier in 2014, he beat Federer for the first time in his career in the quarter-final of the Paris Masters. He achieved his career-high ranking of 3 in 2016.
