Dominic Thiem injured himself in the very first round of the Mallorca Open 2021. He couldn’t complete a single set there and hasn’t returned to the court ever since then.

In a recent interview to Tennisnet.com, Thiem’s father, Wolfgang Thiem, revealed that the Austrian player is back to training and is working really hard. Wolfgang also mentioned that Dominic’s physiotherapist was helping him to make an incredible comeback soon. However, Wolfgang didn’t specify when exactly fans will be able to see Dominic back on the court.

“Dominic has been back in fitness training for two and a half weeks and is working on the basis again. He does a lot with Alex Stober, his physiotherapist,” said Wolfgang in the interview.

Thiem injured his wrist at the Mallorca Open 2021. Even though it is hard for him to play at the Cincinnati Masters 2021, fans still believe that he’ll be fine and play at the US Open 2021 to defend his title.

Wolfgang stated that although Thiem is training hard, it is not possible to make any sort of predictions about his return at the moment. He highlighted that his son is still in his preparatory phase and is recovering from the wrist injury.

“Therefore he is fully in the preparatory phase. Playing tennis cannot yet be described as such. It will take a few days before the medical okay. It is impossible to make predictions,” added Wolfgang.
