In the exciting world of tennis rivalries, the GOAT debate continues to captivate fans and maestros alike. For years, Roger Federer has held a firm claim to that coveted status, with his elegant playing style and record-breaking achievements. He was undoubtedly followed in close succession by ATP legends like Djokovic and Nadal. However, in a surprising twist at Halle, the now-retired Swiss maestro cast doubt on Novak Djokovic’s bid for the GOAT throne.

So does he think of himself as the ultimate GOAT? Not really. As humble a man as Federer is, he will always throw the spotlight on others. The recent angle of Federer’s statement directs at Boris Becker, the former tennis legend and Djokovic’s mentor, adding fuel to the fire of this heated conversation.

Is Novak Djokovic the GOAT, or is it somebody else?

Boris Becker, a six-time Grand Slam champion himself, has been a guiding force in Djokovic’s career, nurturing the Serbian player’s talents since their partnership began in 2013. With Djokovic’s monumental achievement of holding all four Grand Slam titles simultaneously in 2016, there was a growing sentiment that the Serb was inching closer to surpassing Federer’s and Rafael Nadal’s GOAT claims.

However, Roger Federer’s recent remarks during the Halle Open press conference raise intriguing questions. When asked about Djokovic’s quest for GOAT status, Federer responded enigmatically, “What is better? Winning Wimbledon at 17 like Becker or Paris at 36 like Novak? I don’t know. What he has achieved is absolutely gigantic. It could be sufficient. But I think as long as Rafa is still playing, too, you can’t answer that definitively yet.”

Federer’s response though definitely acknowledges Djokovic’s remarkable accomplishments it also highlights Rafael Nadal in the running for the coveted GOAT title. Nadal, the King of Clay, has amassed an awe-inspiring 14 French Open titles and is widely regarded as the greatest player on clay courts in the history of the sport. His consistent dominance and rivalry with both Federer and Djokovic have further complicated the determination of the ultimate GOAT. Although there is not much hope for Rafa’s return at the moment, this comment coming from Federer might really add a morale boost to Team Nadal.
