Carlos Alcaraz successfully defends his throne at the Indian Wells. After ending Jannik Sinner‘s incredible 19-match winning streak in the SF, the 20-year-old Spaniard thrashed Daniil Medvedev for the second consecutive time in the finals of the BNP Paribas Open. With this victory in the finals, Alcaraz has now marked his first title win at any level since his remarkable Wimbledon triumph eight months ago. But what’s the secret to his success?

Talking about success, well Carlos Alcaraz has now become the only second player in the history of the tournament to win a second consecutive men’s singles title before turning 21. Boris Becker did it in 1987 and 1988. Novak Djokovic was the last player to defend the title at the Indian Wells. Alcaraz has truly been exceptional throughout the tournament. He spoke about his creative point-snatching skills in the matches during the post-match interview. How does he do it successfully time and again?

How does he manage it, is it because of his exceptional athleticism or creativity or anything else? Alcaraz says, “Well, I’m trying to do that kind of points. I mean, it gives me extra motivation. That’s why I’m trying to find, you know, amazing shots, amazing points. For the people that do not usually watch tennis, and I try them to start watching tennis.

Talking about the secret to his success, he said, “I mean, I always say that I’m playing better with a smile on my face, and points like this one, doesn’t matter if I win it or lose it, it put a smile on my face anyways. I think it helps me to keep improving my game in the match and showing my best tennis. I don’t know if it’s anticipation, fast, I don’t know, I think a mix of both. But sometimes I do it pretty well.“Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev by 7-6(5),6-1 in the finals.
