Carlos Alcaraz is close to matching Federer’s incredible record

According to statistics, Alcaraz has played 61 matches this season so far and won 51 out of them. Interestingly, he won at least one set in every match he has played so far. So, he has a 100 percent record of winning a set in 2022.

Since 1997, Roger Federer was the only player who held this record over 84 matches in a season, where he won a set in every match. Apart from a 100 percent record, Federer also lost only 4 matches in that season in 2005.

In the same year, Rafael Nadal played 87 matches and won 78 of them. However, he only suffered one straight-set loss in that season, against the Russian player Igor Andreev. Now, Alcaraz has a great chance to equal Federer’s record this season and no other player comes close to him.

Alcaraz recently played in the Davis Cup representing his country, Spain. After that, he will most probably play in the ATP World Tour Finals, which will take place in November in Turin. Before that, we might see him in a few tournaments as well, including the Swiss Indoors Basel.

Alcaraz wanted to play against Roger Federer

Before Federer announced his retirement from tennis, he was all set to play in the Swiss Indoors Basel. With that in mind, Alcaraz entered that tournament, as he expressed his desire to play against Federer in various interviews. Recently, he wrote a beautiful message on Instagram where he expressed his desire to play against him.

However, it seems like that’s not going to happen as Federer will play his last tournament at the Laver Cup in 2022. Sadly, Alcaraz is not taking a part in this tournament. Alcaraz has never played against Federer in his career and it will most probably remain that way.

Meanwhile, Federer Federer expressed his desire to play doubles with Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup, which could be the last match of his professional career. Now, it will be up to Nadal and the organizers to schedule that match, as many fans eagerly await the schedule of the Laver Cup; the tournament will start on 23rd September.
