The match was a lot closer despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise as the former World Number 1 won in straight sets 7-6 (1), 6-4. On slow courts in Shanghai, Alcaraz was made to toil for his win against Evans. Their match lasted for just under two and a half hours as the Spaniard eventually prevailed in a tough two-set match. Following the match, he made a big revelation about his opponent.

During the post-match press conference, Alcaraz said, “Well, I think that the conditions are quite different here from the US Open. It’s slower than US Open, so I had to adapt my game a little bit. He was more aggressive probably than the other matches.”
