Diet and nutrients are essential parts of an athlete’s body. A good dietary regime not only helps the athletes stay fit but also improves their energy and tennis is not an exception to that. Following Novak Djokovic‘s 2010 Australian Open sickness, he changed his diet completely and amused millions with the results. Carlos Alcaraz, who just stunned the fraternity with two Grand Slams back to back, reveals why he found the Serb’s diet plan great for his play as well.
Ahead of the Paris Olympics, Carlos Alcarz again showed major reliability on Djokovic’s strategies as the Spaniard started a gluten-free diet routine much like the Serb’s. Mentioning how he feels “better”, Alcaraz said that he “did a test to see what was good and bad for” his health and it revealed that gluten was not good for him. By choosing this new gluten-free diet, Alcaraz said, “I wanted to give that extra 1 or 2% by being physically better.”
Djokovic arrived at the Wimbledon after barely a month after a knee surgery, having blown past opponents. Sure, he may have gotten a walkover in the QFs when Alex de Minaur withdrew, but the Serbian’s healthy diet was a huge part of why he’s still performing at a high level and is the World No. 2, only recently dethroned from No. 1, at age 37.

Now Djokovic has also mentioned his gluten intolerance before. Last year in July, the Serb revealed that in 2010 he had a challenging point in his career. At that time, he couldn’t compete to win any Grand Slam and often found himself retired with injuries on tour. During the 2010 Australian Open quarterfinals, Djokovic suffered major physical discomfort and was tested, his results declaring he was gluten intolerant.
After this, Djokovic not only changed his routine but also made a complete dietary transformation. Further, this former world’s number one ATP star doesn’t consume preservative-added to food items. Mentioning how vegetables help the body become more alkaline, the Serb starts his day with lemon water, celery juice, and smoothies. He also adds mangoes and strawberries to his breakfast.

Now, Alcaraz’s new diet follows Djokovic’s preferences. Why wouldn’t he? The Serb played two four-and-a-half-hour matches in the 204 Roland Garros showing the benefits of his food habit. He was able to keep such energy and fitness because he followed a nutritious diet. If Alcaraz also chooses to walk on the same path, it means that he is dedicated to making his body fit and powerful for the Olympics. Given the Spaniard’s admiration for him, Alacarz might truly make this work.

While this offers people to see the Spaniard’s dedication, they remember how two years back the same guy revealed how he ate what he wanted.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Alcaraz might surprise people with his new diet but he was a different guy two years back. In 2022, this ATP star spoke about his food habits and said, “I eat a lot of fish, more than meat. I eat quite a lot of pasta, that’s good for athletes. And I’m lucky that I can eat a lot without putting on weight in terms of fat. It’s good for me to eat quite a lot, and that’s what I do. I also eat a lot of salad, a lot of rice… I love sushi! It’s so good.” However, he really surprised people when he mentioned, “when I’m in Murcia I do occasionally like to get my hamburgers, my pizzas… I really love that.”
This Spaniard’s recent diet routine really surprised people showing signs of sheer hard work and dedication before the Paris Olympics. Do you think Carlos Alcaraz will get his debut Olympic medal this year?
