One does not beat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final with plain luck; it requires the kind of grit and determination, not to mention talent, that Carlos Alcaraz possesses. The young Spaniard no doubt has the skills, but as of late, he has struggled on the tour. Unable to recreate his feats from 2023 and finding himself eliminated from another tournament in the early stages, Alcaraz is more disappointed in himself than anyone else.

He found himself in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open but had to leave the tournament. While it was one of his best runs, he couldn’t continue the momentum in the Argentina Open, ‘hurt’ over the defeat.

The young Spaniard stepped in the Argentina Open, hoping to find a winning momentum in 2024. Near the end of 2023, he found himself in a minor slump, which followed him in 2024. Carlos Alcaraz couldn’t recreate feats from early 2023 and found himself exiting the Buenos Aires championship in round 3. Alcaraz found good wins in rounds 1 and 2, but Nicolás Jarry shut him down in straight sets after a hard-fought first set.

Speaking to Punto De Break after his elimination, he said, “This defeat has hurt me a lot. I have played far from my real level. I have to read the games better. It is a subject that I have been pending for a long time, playing the important moments better. Concentration has not improved compared to 2023. The year is long and there is still a long way to go.”

Alcaraz will now continue his 2024 season in the Rio Open, where he will play on 20th February against Thiago Monteiro. Winning the Rio Open will help him grasp his game and perform at the same level he used to in 2023. But how did the talented Spaniard get to this point in the first place?

When Alcaraz’s slump began

After he won the Wimbledon against Novak Djokovic in five sets, Carlos Alcaraz was the talk of the town. However, following the tournament, he stumbled a bit. The young Spaniard first lost in the final of the Cincinnati Masters, then he exited in the semifinal of the US Open. He would follow it with a fourth-round exit in the Shanghai Open and then a round-two exit in the Paris Masters.
