Carlos Alcaraz Unbothered Regarding World No.1 Ranking Following His Epic Quarterfinals at the US Open 2022

In a nail-biting five-set quarterfinal at the US Open, Spanish tennis sensation, Carlos Alcaraz came from behind to beat the Italian Jannik Sinner. After his massive victory, Alcaraz will now proceed to the semi-final of the US Open. The Spaniard revealed during the post-match press conference that he was unconcerned about the match’s results and the number one ranking.

The Spaniard defeated 11th seed Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-3 in the quarter-final of the US Open. It was the second-longest game in the history of the US Open.

Carlos Alcaraz about the number one spot

The Spaniard can walk out of the US Open as the new World No.1, but for that to happen, he must reach the final. However, during the post-match press conference, Alcaraz spoke about the number one ranking. He said, “I was just thinking about the match, not the rankings or the results.” He further added that he is just focused on his game.

Alcaraz stated, “I just trying to be focused trying to put my best in every game. You know I just believe in myself in that, in that game I was returning pretty well.”

The Spaniard is in excellent form and he put on a fiery performance to win his quarter-final match against Sinner.

Who will Alcaraz face in the US Open semi-finals?

With the victory over the Italian tennis player, Alcaraz advanced to the semi-finals. He will play against the American Frances Tiafoe, for a spot in the US Open final. Frances Tiafoe defeated Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the US Open on Monday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, and followed it up with a brilliant performance against Andrey Rublev.

The quarter-final match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz lasted five hours and fifteen minutes. Subsequently, it became the second-longest match in the major’s history. The longest US Open match took place in 1992. It was the five hours, 26-minute semifinal match between Michael Chang and Stefan Edberg.
