A few years back, the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal entered the fag end of their careers. Thus, the onus lay on young stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz to take tennis forward. If there’s any one player who has performed consistently as the power of the Big Three wanted, it is Alcaraz. The Spanish sensation has already won four Grand Slam titles and looks hungry for more. Additionally, he also won the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

With Alcaraz all set for the 2025 season, his compatriot and former pro player, David Ferrer, made a big prediction about him. Ferrer is Spain’s Davis Cup captain, where the team bowed out in the quarterfinals this year despite Alcaraz’s heroics. Earlier today, it was revealed that Alcaraz will participate at the Barcelona Open next year, where he’ll aim to win a hattrick of titles. Ferrer is also the tournament’s director and was elated to have the young Spaniard in the tournament.

Heaping praise on Alcaraz, Ferrer said, “Carlos is a unique player, with a lot of charisma and who also has fun on the court. He has exceptional abilities to dominate the point against any rival and that makes him different from any other player. And we are talking about the youngest tennis player in history to be number one in the world. He still has a whole career ahead of him to continue improving and developing as a player. He will be the great dominator of the circuit for the next ten years, without a doubt.”

While Ferrer has often spoken highly about Alcaraz, he also gave his compatriot a useful piece of advice to be on the same path as the Big Three. “He is so good because he demands a lot from himself, but he has to learn and lose. People outside of tennis think he can win all the time. But that’s impossible. Even Rafa, Roger, and Novak, the best in history, couldn’t do that,” Ferrer pointed out to Alcaraz.

Further, Alcaraz is happy to return to his native place to clinch a hat trick of titles. After confirming his participation at the Barcelona Open, Alcaraz made a heartfelt revelation.

Carlos Alcaraz weighs in on a special tournament

The Spanish sensation made his debut at the Barcelona Open in 2019 as a 17-year-old. He received an invitation from the tournament in the qualifying draw of the event. Subsequently, he played in the 2021 edition, where he bowed out in the first round. Alcaraz finally tasted success in 2022 when he defeated Pablo Carreno Busta in the summit clash to win the title. Further, he also won the trophy last year.

After missing this year’s edition due to an injury, Alcaraz is happy to be back at the tournament. Confirming his participation next year, he said, “Very happy to play in Barcelona again and fight for my third title. It’s a very special tournament for me, with a lot of history and it’s played on courts that I know very well since I was little. In addition, the affection of the people in the stands makes it even more emotional.”

Meanwhile, Alcaraz won’t play any warm-up tournaments before the Australian Open. His first tournament of the 2025 season will be the Grand Slam Down Under.
