“Second Father” Juan Carlo Ferrero treats Carlos Alcaraz like his own family. Apart from helping the Spanish tennis prodigy to win two Grand Slams, their long partnership has brought Alcaraz a vision to improvise his skills and establish himself as a worthy flag bearer of Spain’s legendary Rafael Nadal. While Ferrero doesn’t hesitate to compliment the tennis prodigy, he suggests “a little more strategy and order” for his pupil.

Per Esquire.com, Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero was asked to reveal one of the virtues as a tennis player he would like to give to his pupil Carlos Alcaraz. In his response, Ferrero said– “Maybe a little more order. Once all my maelstrom as a player has passed and with more years you realize that you could have done things with a little more strategy and order, right?” However, Ferrero reminded the interviewer that Alcaraz is still young to have a long vision that would benefit his game. He continued by saying- “Obviously, at 20 years old it is difficult to have that clarity of ideas when it comes to doing many things, but I would leave that little extra order.”

While Ferrero mentioned Alcaraz’s weakness, he also complimented this tennis star’s ability to learn and execute his coach’s teachings perfectly. In an interview with tennis Majors in April 2023, Ferrero said earlier this month- “Let’s say that the first thing I saw was Carlos’ game and how he could be adapted. It’s very difficult to find a player to whom you can tell to play in very different ways, and then he does it. Example: to beat Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final, we made a plan, and this plan was not normally a plan Carlos has all the time. It was kind of similar, but not same. Carlos was able to execute it and prevail.”

Carlos Alcaraz calls his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero his “second father”

After defeating Hubert Hurkacz at the Canadian Open last year, Alcaraz revealed Ferrero’s importance in his life. This Grand Slam winner tennis star said- “Well, he was my mentor. You know, everything that I have done is thanks to him. I learned a lot from him not only in the professional part, even the personal part as well. He’s my second father, so he is really important person for me.”

Alcaraz further explained how Ferrero made him the successful player he is now. In his words– “I mean, everything that I’ve, you know, came through…he was experienced in that momen…I learned about how to deal in a lot of tough moments…and first things about everything…so I am the person and the player that I am right now thanks to him.”

Juan Carlos Ferrero’s revelation about his wish to reward Alcaraz with one of his tennis virtues reveals his fatherly love for the Spanish tennis prodigy. On the other hand, Alcaraz’s statement showcased his respect for his coach in his life.
