One of new-age tennis’ biggest rivalries is between the Australian Open 2023 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas and the “bad boy” Nick Kyrgios. Recently, Stefanos was in an interview with Tromaktiko, a Greek news channel. When asked about his feud with Kyrgios, he opened up candidly about his stance. Just a few hours later, Kyrgios himself decided to reply to Tsitsipas.

The two young tennis players clashed at the infamous third-round match at the Wimbledon Championships last year. While Kyrgios won the match that stretched to four sets, both he and Tsitsipas were fined heavily. Both players acted aggressively during the match and at times, lost their cool. Tsitsipas blamed Nick’s antics on the court for ruining their relationship, while Nick replied with a fiery comeback on his Instagram story.

During the interview, when asked about what caused their relationship to suffer, Tsitsipas said, “He was the one who broke our relationship. I didn’t do anything,” to Tromaktiko, which was later reported by The Sunday Morning Herald. He brought back memories of the Wimbledon match, as he said, “In 2022 Wimbledon I was only trying to compete, while he was playing the clown.” He further added hinting at Kyrgios’ mood, “It also depends on how he wakes up each day.”

It is clear that Kyrgios is trolling Tsitsipas for losing the match. His fans believe that Tsitsipas is talking out of jealousy. However, it is worth mentioning that both players were fined for their misdemeanor during the match. While Tsitsipas was fined a larger amount, Kyrgios’ fans definitely take this opportunity to vilify him in this debacle.

He pointed out Tsitsipas’ side of the match and the tennis community has blasted both of them over this. While some have sided with Nick, saying that Tsitsipas is acting out, others have questioned his audacity to criticize Tsitsipas after he pleaded guilty to assault charges.
