Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev share something more besides their deep passion for the sport. The Spaniard’s present coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, was the 25-year-old’s former coach. However, coach Ferrero recently spilled the beans on his not-so-good relationship with the German star who he coached before choosing to guide the 19-year-old US Open champion.

Under Ferrero’s watchful eye, the Spanish sensation has gone on to script memorable victories on the tour en route to breaking the record for the youngest ATP World No.1 in Flushing Meadows. On the other hand, the German tennis player is still struggling with a gruesome injury suffered at Roland Garros.

Carlos Alcaraz’s current coach blasts his former pupil Alexander Zverev

The 42-year-old former Spanish tennis player recently talked about the German star and called him out for being difficult to work with. He criticized Zverev for having a lax attitude towards training. Not only that, but he also made a comparison with the current world number one, stating that he made things easier for him.

He said, “What I know is I needed something like this because after working with Sascha [Zverev] that wasn’t that easy for me, it’s not the same culture, he understands a little bit differently [the meaning of] being professional, I needed to refresh a little bit and work with someone that was a little bit the same character as me and wanted the same things for the future and in Carlos I think I found it.”

According to the onetime Grand Slam champion, Alcaraz has a similar attitude to him when it comes to understanding tennis, which wasn’t the case with Zverev.

Zverev all set to mark his comeback with a win

The 25-year-old tennis player was just two matches away from winning his first major title at the French Open earlier this year. However, he sustained an injury while playing against Rafael Nadal. And after six months of dealing with recovery, the tennis star is back and ready to claim his victory.

Due to the fact that he hasn’t competed since last June, Zverev emphasized how eagerly he is looking forward to winning the Diriyah Tennis Cup. The Riyadh-based tennis event will take place between December 8 to 10.
