Frances Tiafoe is singing the blues after his early exit from the Japan Open. The 25-year-old had started the season quite well by bagging 37 wins out of 55 matches, but the end looks quite dull. He had an impeccable run in the Stuttgart Open and United Cup earlier this year. But recently, he has been facing backlash from the fans because of his underperformance in the last few tournaments.

Tiafoe lost to his compatriot Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals of the US Open earlier this year. Now, he watches another American move past him as the defending champion Taylor Fritz, wins his first round in Japan. He lost 5 matches in a row and that too when he was considered a favorite against the world number 50 – that was quite enough to put him in hot water with the sport’s aficionados.

Surely, no one wants to break his 100% winning record against their opponents. But when it happens, it’s quite obvious to face the wrath. The Russian tennis player, Aslan Karatsev, defeated Frances Tiafoe of America by 6-3, 7-6(4) to move to the Round of 16 in the Japan Open. But sadly, for the youngest American to lift an ATP title since Andy Roddick, things turned out to be quite frenetic on social media. Jose Morgado put light on his disappointing run and several fans jumped in to react to his loss. Here’s what they say.

One of the fans claimed he hasn’t looked motivated lately.

Another user by the name of Alfie Solomons called him “an extremely overrated player” who thinks of himself as one of the greatest.

Similarly, Tiafoe also got mocked for his remarks made earlier this year about the possible victor for America’s Grand Slam.

Several others even questioned his performance outside the USA. The fans looked quite disappointed with his result.

He even got a suggestion to get Coco Gauff’s coach, Brad Gilbert, on board his team, who helped the young teen clinch her first Grand Slam title.

Some of them went a little too far and called him a “clown show“.

Others lamented his dip in form after his glorious battles in the past.

People often assume tennis players are one of the richest athletes in the world. Well, everything is good in highs but things can turn out really uglier in your lows. Frances Tiafoes got a taste of it and surely he will overcome all the obstacles in the future.

The journey of Tiafoe has been full of ups and downs

Frances Tiafoe has been in the headlines right from the start while playing in the junior circuit. And why not? Tiafoe is the first Sierra Leonean-American to be ranked in the Top 10 of the ATP rankings. He is the third of African descent after Arthur Ashe and James Blake in the same rankings. The world number 14 even had the privilege of defeating his childhood idol Juan Martin del Potro in the Delray Beach Open. That’s quite an achievement for a youngster.
