Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has had a difficult 2022 season. Earlier this year, the 35-year-old was denied participation in the Australian Open. Owing to his staunch stand against the covid-19 vaccination, the Serb has received a lot of backlashes.

The guidelines for vaccination differ from country to country and, just like Australia, the US also has made vaccination mandatory for foreign nationals entering the country. This means the 21-time Grand Slam champion will have to sit out of the year’s last Grand Slam event.

The stand from Djokovic has the tennis world divided. While many believe that the law of land is above all, a few are disappointed that the star player will miss out on the Grand Slam. One of them is the American tennis star, John Isner.

The 35-year-old had a negative impact on the tour after the Australian Open fiasco. However, he returned to form in style and defended the Wimbledon Championship recently. Now with the US Open set to begin later this month, the Serb is certainly not changing his mind.

Novak Djokovic has been receiving widespread support from his fans in the US. The Serb also took to his Instagram account to thank the fans. Meanwhile, a few more prominent personalities from the country have urged the US government to let the champion player feature in the tournament.

Just after the 35-year-old clinched his 21st Grand Slam title, former American tennis star John McEnroe gave a statement supporting Djokovic.

“I think politics got in the way too much. It already happened in Australia at the beginning of the year. Let Novak Djokovic enter the United States and play the US Open,” he said.

Recently, US Congresswoman Claudia Tenney also showed her support for the star tennis player.

“I wrote a letter to the Secretary of State urging him to play the US Open.” she wrote.

It will be interesting to see if this brings some change. However, as of now, it seems highly unlikely that Djokovic will be in Flushing Meadows.
