In the previous season, Boris Becker returned to the tennis circuit as a coach as he teamed up with the young ATP sensation, Holger Rune. The Hall of Famer accompanied the Danish tennis player in three tournaments, including the Nitto ATP Finals in 2023. However, now that the new season has kicked off, Rune has decided to make some changes to his coaching team for the forthcoming Australian Open.
Aside from the German tennis legend, Roger Federer’s former coach, Severin Luthi, is also part of the Dane’s coaching team. Now that the first Grand Slam event of the season is about to kick off, it is the Swiss coach who will be accompanying Rune, according to some new disclosures.

Now that the new season has started, Federer’s former coach will accompany Rune during his participation in the Australian Open, as confirmed by the Dane’s mother. In an exclusive with Essentially Sports, Aneke Rune stated, “It’s was the plan all the time that severin took AO with holger and not Boris . So it’s no surprise for us. Severin and Holger also need some tournaments alone as Boris already did end last year and some tournaments where they will both be there.
The ATP player’s mother also revealed that Becker and Rune ‘will not take all tournaments together’ as it will become quite hectic. She added, “But they will not take all Tournaments together as no one can travel this many weeks per year still keep fresh.” Even though he isn’t there at Rune’s player’s box in Australia, Becker recently showcased his support for the Dane on social media.
