Professional tennis do not often play for their countries. Many don’t focus on events where they are representing their countries. However, Novak Djokovic is not such a player. The Olympics is an event where he has always dreamed of winning gold, but he has always fallen short. He has the same aim this year, but he will face a major obstacle in Carlos Alcaraz, who has the same goal.

Along with the dream of winning the gold medal in singles tennis, Alcaraz wants to cinch the doubles gold medal as well. He dreams of taking the glory both in doubles, with the King of Clay, and in singles, away from the Djoker.

Carlos Alcaraz aims to demolish Novak Djokovic’s dream

Serbia has not managed to win many medals at the Olympics throughout its existence. They have accumulated 24 medals, out of which 6 are gold medals. Seeing the lack of medals, Djokovic has been aspiring to win the gold medal at the Summer Olympics when he became a professional player. He has come close three times, once when he won a Bronze medal in 2008, then at the 2012 and 2021 Olympics. 

This year, he is aiming to go a step ahead and win the biggest prize the tournament has to offer. However, he is not the only one pining for the gold medal. Along with him, Alcaraz also aims to add another gold medal to Spain’s renowned history. Interviewing with Marca, he said, “I keep the Olympic title because for me it is a dream to win a medal for my country. Gold is one of the greatest things in sport in general.”

This year, if he plays, he will play with a different partner, who is most likely to be Alcaraz.
