Daniil Medvedev, the current World No. 2, is at a really tough stage in his career given the mixed basket of emotions he must be going through over the last few months. He recently made a worrisome announcement about about missing the next 1-2 months on the tour as he urgently needs to take care of a small hernia.

It was possibly this hernia that was bothering him during his match with the defending champion Hubert Hurkacz at Miami. He complained of dizziness and his rhythm seemed off even though fans were treated to sparks of the Russian’s brilliance here and there.

“I don’t know the actual reason. Maybe the heat. But I was feeling super, like, dizzy, tired, and there was this long game where I couldn’t serve anymore. Then in the locker room I was cramping quite much, so physically was not easy. But at the same time, that’s part of the game,” he had said after his quarterfinal match.

He said that he’ll be out for 1-2 months, which means its a huge blow to his clay court season, including his chances at the French Open.

Daniil Medvedev had a lot riding on this match

Medvedev has been on the brink of the top ranking for quite some time now and he got a taste of it very recently. But the past few months have been bittersweet for the Russian. He lost in the finals of the Australian Open 2022 against Rafael Nadal after being two sets and a break up.

But, his performance in Melbourne got him his World No. 1 ranking. He then reached the semi finals at Acapulco but lost to the Spaniard again.

He needed to reach the Quarterfinals at Indian Wells in order to consolidate his rankings but he lost in the third round against an inspired performance by veteran Gael Monfils. He again had the chance at the top spot in Miami if he reaches the semis but he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Hubert Hurkacz.
