However, Matteo Berrettini believes Daniil Medvedev possesses the ability to crack that mindset of Djokovic’s.

The Italian feels Medvedev is really solid and has played exceptionally well throughout the 2021 season. The Russian pulled off an extraordinary victory in the finals of US Open 2021, defeating the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic.

The Italian quoted, ” He (Medvedev) is really solid. He is moving really well, playing deep, serving well, returning. I mean, he is not missing at all. He is playing good, especially on hard court, he is probably, I mean, together with Novak, the best player that we have now.”

Berrettini feels the Russian is extremely tricky to play. He added,”  Personally, last year, I struggled to play against him, but I work hard to be ready for this match, so we will see.” He faced the World No. 2 last at the ATP Cup 2021, where the Russian easily defeated him. Yet another time, Matteo Berrettini will face Medvedev at the ATP Cup 2022 on 6th January 2022.

Djokovic to miss the ATP Cup

World No. 1 and 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from this year’s ATP Cup. Earlier, he confirmed his participation at the competition, however, a few days ago, the Serb decided to pull out.

Recently, he was seen practicing with the Australian Open balls. Despite not giving full details on his availability, Djokovic was seen hitting a few shots with the tournament’s official balls. We’ll have to wait for Djokovic’s final decision as the Australian Open 2022 is drawing closer.
