Medvedev earned his ticket to the semi-final by defeating fellow Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarters. The 25-year-old looks to be a strong contender to clinch the championship this year, but has to get two more wins in order to make that a reality.

Daniil Medvedev brought up Karatsev’s dream run at the Australian Open right after his win over Rublev at Rod Laver Arena. “It’s unbelievable I’m so happy for Aslan. He made history. He’s the first one to make semis on his debut, especially at 27,” Medvedev mentioned.

“I honestly don’t know what he did during the pandemic, probably worked harder. So really happy for him you know if we’ll have a Russian final it’s just going to be a dream come true but we both are going to have quite tough matches and tough opponents,” added Medvedev.

Of course, two Russians taking on each other at the Australian Open Finals will be a spectacle to watch. However, as Daniil Medvedev recognized, the path won’t be easy for him or Karatsev.

Aslan Karatsev takes on 17-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the first semi-final, while Medvedev will face either Rafael Nadal or Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The road at Australian Open 2021 has been nothing but successful for Karatsev and Medvedev. However, this is when things will start to get more intense. Will the Russians get past the hurdle and meet each other in the finals?
