Daniil Medvedev on picking Djokovic as his favorite for the Wimbledon crown
Going back in time, the on-court rivalry between Djokovic and Medvedev dates back to 2017 when the two first played. Ever since then, the two today stand with ten meetings, of which Djokovic leads with six. However, out of the ten meetings, only one has taken place on grass, with Djokovic winning in straight sets.

Apart from that, needless to say, Djokovic’s track record on the grass courts of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is nothing less than extraordinary. The Serb has dominated the tournament in recent years, winning the last 3 championships.

Considering the such stats, Medvedev admitted, “Novak is always the favourite. He has won the last three Wimbledons that have been played. He plays very well on grass. If we talk about the best players in history on grass, I would place him at the top, although I have not seen Borg or Sampras play.”

The other favorites for Medvedev
Talking about Wimbledon, apart from Djokovic, another name that comes to every fan’s mind is Roger Federer. The Swiss maestro is an 8-time Wimbledon champion, the most by any player in the men’s circuit. However, with his absence at this year’s Wimbledon, Medvedev gave the second and third spot in his ‘favorites list’ to 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini and the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.
Going ahead in the conversation, Medvedev said, “From my generation, Federer and Djokovic are the best. Of course, Nadal can win any tournament he plays in and Berrettini is playing at a high level. Speaking of favourites, Djokovic, Berrettini and Nadal.”
