Throughout their journey at the Davis Cup, Team Australia has been the one to look out for. Coming into the tournament as the runners-up from last year, they have qualified directly for the tournament’s finals. They started their campaign with a match against Great Britain. However, things did not go as they planned and they eventually lost the tie against them.

They played France next. The French got off to a great start with Adrian Mannarino defeating Max Purcell, and they were behind 1-0. To keep Australia in the Davis Cup, however, Alex de Minaur came ahead and defeated Ugo Humbert to equalize the score, and then the deadly duo of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell overcame Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the doubles match.

The Australians’ last group-stage match was against Switzerland. In a bid to make their way into the next round, the players produced their best game and won all their 3 matches to win the tie with a scoreline of 3-0. Victories from Alex de Minaur and Thanasi Kokkinakis secured the tie. Ebden and Purcell won the doubles match to complete a 3-0 triumph while continuing their unbeaten streak.

On the other hand, the Czech Republic was placed in a group which featured Spain, South Korea, and Serbia. The Czechs defeated Spain 3-0 in their first-round matchup in the finals. Next up was South Korea, which the Czech Republic won when Machac and Lehecka defeated Hong Seong-chan and Kwon Soon-woo, respectively. With another 3-0 win, they almost secured their qualification to the next round of the tournament.

Prediction: Team Australia could make it through to the semi-finals of the Davis Cup

The two teams will be going head to head against each other and it would be a pure joy to watch. On one hand, there will be an Aussie side that probably has one of the strongest lineups in the tournament and then there will be the Czech side, who has won all of their group-stage matches.

Australia will be relying heavily on Alex de Minaur while the hopes of Czech will rest on Jiri Lehecka’s shoulder. However, it is the Aussie side that has an upper edge when it comes to their opponent. Also, the fact that they were the runners-up last year would give them the confidence to bring their best game again and bring that title home.

One take at a time

In a world where player rivalries dominate social media conversations, I am someone who prefers to enjoy the skills showcased on the court rather than be involved in feuds over the greatness of players. Right from my early childhood, I have been engrossed by the legendary rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It turned me into a ‘Fedal’ fan and eventually, when I graduated from college, this fandom created an interest in covering their exploits on the court.
