Doctor provides clarity on Rafael Nadal’s condition

On 3rd June, Nadal’s surgery was finished. Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, along with Jaume Vilaró and Marc Philippon, were the doctors who were present for the operation. He was in Barcelona for the surgery and then flew back to Paris to help players at the Roland Garros. As per Cotorro, the decision to operate was under contention at first

As the injury was in the tendon rather than the muscle, conservative approaches weren’t yielding positive results. Therefore Nadal’s medical team decided that an operation was imperative. Cotorro further said that they were happy with the procedure. Additionally, if they follow proper recovery times, the overall result seems to be in their favor.

I’m happy because we’ve done what we wanted to… We’re very satisfied and if we respect the recovery times, I think he will be able to recover. Rushing is never a good idea. It’s five months, but we’re not pushing for a particular date,” Cotorro told ATP Tour.

He also said the chances of success are quite high as the tendons are healthy. The only thing that they can do now is wait for everything to heal properly.

We have a high chance of success,” said Cotorro. “All the remaining part of the tendon is healthy and will regenerate, but it needs time to regenerate and it needs to be treated in a way that allows that to happen.”

While fans are sorely missing the presence of Rafa, it would be for the best that he comes back 100%. In 2024, Nadal will give it his all as he has his entire career.
