The 2024 season has been one of the worst seasons in the illustrious career of Novak Djokovic. So much so that the Serb is yet to win a title this year going into the French Open. After a glamorous last season which saw him win three Grand Slam titles, Djokovic’s form dipped suddenly. With the winless run continuing, he is in desperate need of a title to boost his chances ahead of the clay-court Grand Slam tournament. As a result, he announced a major move which has come as a surprise for his fans.
The World Number 1 will participate in the Geneva Open, which happens just before Roland Garros. Djokovic has been handed a wildcard entry into this ATP 250 tournament. He will join the likes of Andy Murray, Taylor Fritz, and Ben Shelton who are also playing here.

While form hasn’t been on his side, Djokovic hasn’t also played in tournaments regularly this year, which makes his participation in the Geneva Open a lot more surprising. For the record, he missed big tournaments like the Miami Open and Madrid Open. Let alone winning the title, Djokovic is yet to reach a final in 2024.

Although Djokovic has suffered from poor form, he has dominated the tennis circuit for more than a decade. As a result, he won praise from a tennis bigwig for his multi-generation dominance.
Tennis Author is all praise of Novak Djokovic
Earlier this year, a popular tennis author, Joel Drucker appeared in the Rock N Roll Tennis podcast. During that conversation, he went on to praise the World Number 1 for his achievements across generations. He said, “Novak now is like he’s got freaking pit crew. I mean Novak is about as well-oiled machine if there’s ever been in tennis right. And, you John you were there at the at the start when this happened with people like Martina Navratilova and Ivan Lendl, they were the beginning of the of the scientific management of the game.”

Further, he also added, “I associate Connors, McEnroe, even Borg a little bit with kind of the entrepreneur phase. You know, the startup. His body (Borg) was always, the swimmer’s body is amazing. But later, people like Lendl, Martina they created the template of how a plan you take it 40 years later. Novak’s Unbelievable.”
It remains to be seen if the Serb can finally win a title this season in Geneva. However, he’ll face a strong challenge from the likes of Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz, who will also be seen in action in Switzerland.
