Stefanos Tsitsipas finds himself at crossroads. Right now the Greek aims to finish his season on a good note. After winning the Monte-Carlo Masters against Casper Ruud in April, the Greek star struggled to find his rhythm. He entered the Paris Masters with hopes of another victory but fell to Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals. Despite the setback, he had incredible support from his girlfriend, Paula Badosa, who flew in from Japan to cheer him on. So will Tsitsipas return the favor to her as she competes at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup? To his luck, he won’t be able to.

Now ranked eleventh, Tsitsipas is an alternate for the ATP Finals in Turin. This means he must stay ready for a possible call to replace an injured player, preventing him from supporting Badosa during her matches at the Billie Jean King Cup. He’s open about his feelings; after a video of Badosa was posted by the Real Federacion Espanola de Tenis on X, Tsitsipas playfully responded, “¿Sabes que no tienes que pagar peajes para acercarte a la red? 🙃” which translates to “Did you know that you don’t have to pay tolls to get close to the net?”

The video showed Badosa just inches away from the court, prompting a suggestion from the BJK Cup’s official X account for Tsitsipas to showcase his “volleys in Malaga.” However, being an alternate for the ATP Finals, he replied, “Would love to join, but I’m currently too busy in Turin… waiting… patiently… very patiently… as an alternate 🥲.”

According to the rules, the alternates must be present at the venue in case they need to step in mid-match, which means Tsitsipas can’t cheer on Badosa as she faces tough competitors like Iga Swiatek.

However, surely, the Greek makes up for it in his own ways. The two are often seen together ahead of or during matches. The most recent interaction was during their time together in Paris. The couple was seen out and about on a coffee date. Paula never shies away from sharing little tidbits with fans on her Instagram and certainly not during interviews!

What’s your perspective on:

Does distance really make the heart grow fonder, or is it just a romantic myth?

“He’s pretty romantic” Badosa reveals a heartwarming detail about Tsitsipas.

On November 6th, during a Tennis Channel interview, Badosa made a surprise appearance and was asked about Tsitsipas’ romantic side. With a smile, she said, “He’s pretty romantic. He is. I cannot complain.” Her sweet words left Tsitsipas blushing and clearly delighted.

Tsitsipas believes that distance can actually strengthen their love. In his view, being apart doesn’t weaken their connection; instead, it fosters deeper feelings and intimacy. “My theory is that distance should make a relationship better, not worse,” he explained. He cherishes the moments they spend together during tournaments and during their breaks, noting that Badosa brings a unique balance to his life. Their shared passion for tennis keeps them motivated and allows them to uplift each other through the highs and lows of the season.

Even though Tsitsipas is in Turin and Badosa is in Malaga, they remain hopeful about bridging the gap. Their commitment to their respective careers doesn’t diminish their bond. In turn, it seems to enhance it. As this dynamic couple navigates their relationship amidst their professional journeys, fans will hope that Tsitsidosa connects again soon. Only time will tell!
