There are many records one can hold in tennis. Winning grand slam, attaining rank 1, winning Master’s and WTA 1000 tournaments, and a lot more. Novak Djokovic is one player who has won many titles and stands at number 1 in many records. Along with the most grand slam titles, he also has the record for spending the most weeks at rank 1. When asked about his greatest career achievement, Djokovic picked most weeks as number 1 and gave an interesting reason behind his choice.

The Serbian player is now known for having 23 grand slam titles, higher than any player in the ATP. However, he has other records worthy of notice as well. The Djoker is also the holder of most ATP 1000 titles in his career, with a record of 38.

Novak Djokovic has a unique reason for picking his best achievement

As the ATP world number 2 gears up to try and win his 24th grand slam, he gave an interview to talk about his tennis career. Picking his favorite matches, fan questions, advice to kids and more were covered in the exclusive. In the same interview, Nole talked about his greatest achievement of all time. 

For the Serbian legend, his greatest achievement is his record of 389 weeks at the top. As he explained in the interview with Novak Books, a player can win three slams and even then fall out of number 1.

Well, I think the consistency and enduring number 1 spot for that many weeks. I think that’s probably the greatest achievement that a tennis player, from my eyes, could achieve. Because you know, you can win a grand slam, you can win two grand slams, and you can win three grand slams in a year like I did last year and almost not make the number 1 in the world.”

He further explained that winning slams intermittently is easier than maintaining consistency to stay at number 1. “It takes consistency. It requires a player to play for the entire season on all surfaces in order to be number 1 that year.”

In 2021, Djokovic won three grand slams out of four finals. However, he still fell out of number 1 in May 2022, ending the year ranked 5. Now ranked 2, Djokovic aims to achieve rank 1 once again and extend the record further.
