Later in 2009, Agassi came up with his book ‘Open: An Autobiography’. It focused on the overall journey of Agassi. His love-hate relationship with tennis, his two marriages, and his relationships. It also had his admission to taking a banned substance, which created a lot of controversies later. There’s also a part in the book where Agassi shared his sweet love story with actress Brooke Shields.

When Agassi and Brooke Shields had a romance over fax

Back in those days, the luxury of instant messaging and smartphones wasn’t there. One of the prominent ways affluent people can afford to interact from long distances was by fax. Agassi, in his book, recalled the time when he was in the beginning stage of his romance with actress Brooke Shields.

He wrote in his book about the time he and his best friend Gil Reyes reached the conclusion that Shields is worth another fax after watching her movies together. Here’s what he wrote. “I’m intimidated by the fact that Brooke graduated from Princeton with a degree in French literature, whereas I dropped out of ninth grade. Gil brushes aside such talk and pumps up my confidence. I ask him to rent the collected works of Brooke Shields, and we have a two-man film festival.”

Agassi further added, “We rewind, fast-forward, freeze-frame, and debate if Brooke Shields is my type. Not bad, Gil says. Not bad at all. She’s definitely worth another fax. The courtship via fax continues for weeks until Brooke sends a short fax saying she’s finished filming her movie and she’s coming back to the U.S.”

Andre Agassi was not happy with Shields’ guest appearance in the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S

In his book, Agassi later reveals that he and Shields started dating later. Meanwhile, she got an opportunity to play a small part in the popular sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Shields appears in a short role of a stalker who was obsessed with one of the lead characters Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc.

Agassi was not happy with the role, as he knew Shields herself had gone through the problem of having stalkers. However, Shields thought that her experience with the stalkers will help her play the role better and it was a huge opportunity for her. Later she successfully filmed for the role.
