Despite Knowing His ADHD Status, ‘Toxic and Privileged’ American Player Brutally Lambasts Veteran Tennis Legend – ‘Here We Go Again..’

The American tennis star, Reilly Opelka has delivered some great performances against some of the best players on the ATP tour. However, apart from his brilliant performances, Opelka has used his platform to address various political and social issues. Notably, Opelka took note of the two-month suspension posed on the Spanish tennis star, Fernando Verdasco who is facing a doping issue. The 39-year-old tennis player recently tested positive for ADHD medication.
However, the International Tennis Integrity Agency later revealed that Verdasco’s way of consuming the drug was unintentional. They further reduced his ban by stating that the Spaniard didn’t intend to gain an unfair advantage. However, Opelka was unimpressed with the agency’s decision regarding Verdasco’s ban from the tour. He further took to his social media to express his annoyance over the doping issue.

Reilly Opelka expresses his opinion on Fernando Verdasco’s doping issue
After Fernando Verdasco was accused of breaching anti-doping rules, he admitted that he used to the medication to treat ADHD. The Spaniard further forgot to renew his Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) which is an official medical document. This crucial medical record authorizes an athlete to take a specific medication (ordinarily prohibited) in order to treat a valid medical condition.
However, after the ITIA announced its decision to reduce Verdasco’s ban, Reilly Opelka expresses his displeasure on his social media. The American tennis player used his online platform to express his opinion on the Spanish tennis player’s doping issue. Opelka revealed that he believes that the 39-year-old tennis player does not deserve any empathy for consuming the medication which is considered illegal. He went on to say that the medication Verdasco was taking was nothing short of “performance-enhancing drugs.”

As a result, a slew of tennis fans slammed Opelka for his sharp comments on Verdasco’s doping issue. Notably, one of the fans stated, “Verdasco was diagnosed with adhd as a kid. What Opelka’s doing to a fellow player is slander”. In his response, Opelka said, “Im toxic and privileged”

Opelka’s other criticism of the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s decision
The International Tennis Federation previously announced its decision to suspend two prominent US tennis coaches, Mardy Fish and Bob Bryan for promoting gambling. However, Opelka was unimpressed with the International Tennis Federation’s decision of suspending the coaches.

The American tennis star, with his active online presence, criticized the decision by saying, “Tennis is stuck in the 1950s”. The two US tennis coaches have also been fined by ITAI as they were promoting a sports betting company.
