The 2011 French Open proved to be Rafael Nadal’s 6th title at the Stade Roland Garros. However, Nadal’s win came at the cost of Swiss legend Roger Federer. A straight sets defeat for Federer meant a consecutive French Open title for the Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay.

In a recent Instagram post, Kenza Del, a former ballkid, revealed how she showed her support for Roger Federer during the 2011 French Open Final. She also mentioned how Roger Federer returned the favor after his disappointing final loss.

Del and fellow ballkid teamed up to do something special for Federer before he faced Rafael Nadal

Del was one of two ballkids appointed for the 2011 French Open final. Both of them were avid Federer fans, and they weren’t shy about breaking the rules to show their unwavering support for the Swiss maestro. They knew that a tough task was in store for Federer as he squared up against rival Nadal on the latter’s favorite playing surface.

In an Instagram Reel, Del said, “We played some Tic Tac Toe on the clay. It was forbidden of course, and we were both Roger’s fans.” She went on to add, “it was a tough moment for him, and I don’t know why but I decided to write, ‘Allez Roger’.”

Del’s actions did not go unnoticed. “A picture was taken by a photographer, who took the picture at the right time.”

Del revealed how the picture eventually made its way to Federer via his agent, who the photographer knew. She also said, “I guess, Roger liked it”.

The fact that a young ballkid was so supportive of him moved Federer to the core. Like the true gentleman he is, the legend decided to return the favor.

Del said, “he decided to thank me by sending me a little gift I received a few weeks later.” It turned out to be the shirt that Roger Federer wore for the 2011 French Open Final. Federer also signed the shirt for Del, which made it extra special for her.

During his playing days, Federer was an exemplary athlete. Of course, he broke numerous records and made tennis history.
