Rafael Nadal kicked off the year on a massive high. Winning title after title, the Spaniard marked one of the most ideal comebacks of his career. However, his domination came to hold following his struggle with an injury sustained to his rib. Things got worse when he further suffered from his recurrent foot injury.

Asa result, Nadal failed to make his mark at the clay-court tour events. While he failed to perform in Madrid and Rome, the 13-time champion is on a roll at the 2022 French Open. Eyeing his 14th title on the Parisian clay, Nadal recently talked about his struggles.

Rafael Nadal opens up about the difference between Rome and the French Open

Prior to the French open, Nadal suffered a quarterfinal loss in Madrid. Going ahead, the 35-year-old next took part in the Rome Masters. While Madrid didn’t carry much hope for Nadal, Rome was one of the most highly anticipated tournaments in his calendar.

Winning the title 10-times and being the defending champion, Nadal was undoubtedly the favorite for the title. However, to everyone’s shock, Nadal suffered a third-round loss to Denis Shapovalov. The loss raised a line of questions regarding his performance at the 2022 French Open. However, unlike Rome, Nadal has dispatched his opponents, notably the defending champion, Djokovic, in the 2022 French Open.

Yesterday, following his win over Djokovic in the quarterfinals, Nadal opened up about the difference between Rome Masters and the French Open. He said, “At Rome I didn’t have my doctor with me. Here, I have him, you can do things. I’m doing everything that I can to play this tournament the best conditions possible. After that, I don’t know how it will be to be honest, but here I’ll be fine.”

Having won his 21st Grand Slam at the Australian Open, Nadal is eyeing his 22nd Grand Slam and 14th French Open title. Nadal will next play the 3rd seed, Alexander Zverev, in the semifinals.
