

The 2022 US Open has come to a glorious end. Spanish sensation, Carlos Alcaraz won the biggest title of his career as he defeated Casper Rudd in the summit clash to win this year’s US Open title. During the tournament, fans have been fortunate to witness some eye-catching tennis action. Local hero, Frances Tiafoe put on a courageous display in the tournament before his run came to an end in the semifinal against the eventual champion, Alcaraz.

During his semifinal match, the former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, was present in the Arthur Ashe Stadium to cheer for Tiafoe. She was quite vocal in support of him and also gave thumbs-up on a few occasions. After the match, she met Tiafoe and had an interaction with him.

Michelle Obama has kind words for Frances Tiafoe
Although Tiafoe couldn’t overcome the challenge of Carlos Alcaraz, he put up a valiant fight in his semifinal match at the US Open. Subsequently, Michelle Obama hailed Tiafoe’s wonderful effort and congratulated him.
She said, “Watching you, we were both proud of you. You didn’t let anybody down. Let that spirit come over you. You were amazing, have been amazing, made us all so proud.”

In a marathon match lasting four hours and 19 minutes, Alcaraz triumphed over Tiafoe in five sets. The latter even saved match points in the fourth set before winning it in the tiebreaker and stretching the match to the fifth set.

During the post-match interview after his semifinal defeat, the American star spoke highly about his Spanish opponent. Tiafoe said, “Too good from Carlos tonight. I gave everything I had. I gave everything I had the last two weeks.”
