Swedish tennis star Mikael Ymer faced the wrath of the tennis world after his ‘inexcusable’ Lyon Open outburst. A heated argument with the chair umpire followed by a furious meltdown led to his disqualification from the event. After the incident came to light, he faced a lot of flack from viewers and tennis experts alike. While many criticized Ymer for his actions, some claimed that the chair umpire wasn’t devoid of faults either. Now, American tennis ace Taylor Fritz has come out in support of the Swede, mentioning that he might have had a reasonable point to make in the unfortunate event.
Fritz’s recent tweet on the incident will make matters a bit bearable for the 24-year-old.

Ymer got involved in a verbal spat with the chair umpire after a questionable decision from the official. At a crucial juncture of the first set, the official ruled that a shot from his opponent, Frenchman Arthur Fils, had hit the line. But the Swede was adamant that the ball had landed outside and demanded the chair umpire to ‘show him the mark’ on the line. Many pointed out that since the ball bounced waywardly, it must have hit the line on its way up.
According to Fritz, this didn’t necessarily have to be the case. Tweeting about the incident, he wrote, “Not justifying the reaction at all but the amount of people that think a bad bounce = line hit is insane… crazy bounces happen all over the court and especially near lines”.

To make matters worse, Fils broke Ymer’s serve moments after the spat, to go 6-5 up in the first set. An incensed Ymer seemed to reach boiling point as he smashed his racquet in anger against the official’s chair multiple times, breaking both the racquet and the chair in the process. The tournament officials disqualified him then and there. Quite unsurprisingly, he faced a lot of flak on social media for his actions.

Taylor Fritz hasn’t shied away from expressing his opinions on matters like this before. In February this year, he tweeted about a horrible line call at a college tennis match, calling it ‘disgusting’. He was active on the college tennis circuit in his younger days.
I was an overly nice line caller in jr’s but honestly when someone was cheating me really bad this is how I handled it, call a random ball out and they wont mess w u again. Is that what’s happening here? Who knows… but if this call is unprovoked then that’s disgusting 😂 https://t.co/BGmLZQAHN7
