While sharing his insights on the podcast, Mats Wilander delved into the unexpected clash that redefined the narrative surrounding Novak Djokovic. He stated: “They have to thank Alcaraz because he took down Novak in his favorite tournament, on these days, most probably his favorite surface in five sets.” With a tinge of disbelief, he acknowledged the odds stacked against Alcaraz as he set the stage for a showdown.

Carlos Alcaraz’s triumph in the Wimbledon encounter was reflected in scores of 1-6, 7⁸-6⁶, 6-1, 3-6, and 6-4. This unfolded as evidence for the Spaniard’s tenacity. Wilander then added, “He proved that Djokovic is human, you can beat him.” The acknowledgment of Djokovic’s vulnerability is a rarity in tennis discussions. Although it marked a pivotal moment.

Wilander, attributing Alcaraz’s victory to Djokovic’s momentary tightness and frustration, also emphasized the champion’s resilient spirit. In a sport where legends are immortalized by their triumphs, Alcaraz’s Wimbledon conquest perfectly showcased his capabilities. However, it also sheds light on a more human side of the indomitable Novak Djokovic.
