What a night it turned out to be for the World No.7 Alexander Zverev. He not only defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the Rolex Paris Masters 2020 but did that in straight sets. He gave Rafa no time to settle and take some momentum and delivered some phenomenal shots. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 7-5.
Apart from tennis, there are many things that are going on with Zverev off the court. His ex-girlfriend accused him of domestic violence and the 23-year-old German has denied all allegations, refusing to speak on the issues. Sometime earlier, he had some issues with his manager as well which affected his play. However, this time he has not reacted openly and his game has not had a bad impact because of that.
In the post-match interview, there was a question regarding if he learned something new this time to tackle the issue. Zverev responded confidently stating that it was his job to keep himself happy.

“It’s up to me if I’m going to let that happen. You know, I feel like I’m doing quite a good job of not letting that happen. I’m still enjoying myself. As long as you still have a smile at the end of the day, I think that’s the most important in life,” answered a cheerful Zverev.
Alexander Zverev believed that he was enjoying the moment and keeping himself motivated. He also emphasized the role of smiling in his life.

After the incident, it was certainly not easy for Zverev to play without any pre-conceived thoughts. Mental strength is as important as physical strength in tennis and it is important to not affect it adversely.
Talking about how he felt at people’s responses on the issue, Zverev said that he always believed that different people react differently on any matter.
