Not all is going well in the camp of Dominic Thiem right now. Hours ago, the news about his split with his coach, Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh, dropped. The latter had joined only a short while ago when Thiem parted ways with his long-time coach, Nicolas Massu, in April 2023. Further, his latest losses have also led to rumors surrounding his retirement. But debunking rumors, Thiem’s fitness trainer has made contradictory revelations in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports.
The Austrian player has gone through a terrible dip in form, bowing out in the opening round of the two tournaments that he has played this year. Even so, his trainer believes Thiem’s time on the court is not up yet.

Discussing everything about his mentee’s career in the opening round, Dominic Thiem’s fitness trainer, Douglas Cordero, opened up about the former US Open champion’s future in the sport, among other subjects. Cordero was asked what his most ambitious goals with Thiem were. He answered, “My goal is to continue supporting his career and, together with the team, achieve the dream of any player and coach, for Dominic to reach his full potential and start winning against the best players as well as tournaments.”
Meanwhile, Thiem himself hasn’t been clear about his future in the sport. He recently hinted that if he continues at his current form and languishes near the 100th spot, he will end his career in a few months. Thiem is ranked 90 now and he aims to be in the top 50 of the ATP rankings. These are not newfound rumors, though the Austrian has vehemently denied them before.

When Thiem dismissed retirement rumors
The Austrian star had a torrid last season. He didn’t make it beyond the second round in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments in 2023. Additionally, Dominic Thiem also had an inconsistent run across the tournaments but despite this, he continued toiling hard on the court.

Thiem said, “Of course, there were tough moments where you think about it maybe sometimes, yeah! It would be nicer now to do something else, not to face the same stuff for so many days in a row…But to really consider leaving the game, know I’m too young still or also at the injury…I also want to prove to myself”
It is sad to see the downfall of Thiem, given that he is a Grand Slam champion. The next few months become crucial for him as he looks to bounce back in style.
