Daniil Medvedev feels that Nick Kyrgios is not an old guy. Recently, while interacting with a media house, Medvedev confessed that he feels that Kyrgios has a lot of potential in him. Going by the draw, out of all the players in the Round of 16 of the ATP Masters 1000 Miami, Kyrgios stood as the oldest of the lot at 26 years and 11 months; followed by Daniil Medvedev at 26 years and 1 month.

Medvedev suffered a quarterfinal blow in Miami. The current World No. 2 was outplayed by the 8th seeded Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. On the other hand, Kyrgios stayed one step below, being outplayed in the fourth round.

Interacting with a media house, Medvedev was asked to give his take on Kyrgios being the oldest amongst all the players in the Round of 16.

Without taking a second to think, Medvedev replied, “I don’t consider Nick as an old guy.”

Nick Kyrgios is known for his unconventional and entertaining game style. Even though he might struggle to win the big matches, he doesn’t fail to entertain the tennis fans in every match of his. Having a powerful game style, Nick has won a total of 6 singles titles to date. Apart from that, on many occasions, he has also been a tough competitor to the top players. Medvedev feels no different.

Aligning all the stars and considering all the points, Medvedev said, “I think he is still young and as we see, he has a lot of potential to make some crazy results. Even Better than he did before if he already did some good ones. I think it’s great.”

During the interaction, Medvedev was also asked to give his views on seeing all the young players competing in the Last 16 of the Miami Open. Being a young player himself, and the leader of the draw by ranking, the Russian took the question with complete grace. He started by confessing that he didn’t know this. However, commenting on it, he took the stat in a positive light, saying that it is good for tennis.

“I actually didn’t know but it is actually amazing for tennis. To see all these young guys coming up,” he said.

Like most of the players, Medvedev also started his journey by playing the junior circuit. Entering the professional circuit, he won his first career title at the age of 22. Today he stands as one of the top bidders for the top spot in ranking. He is just one example. Apart from Medvedev, a number of other top players and celebrated names of the sport also started from the junior circuit and today stand as successful players.

Commenting on young players making a mark in the sport at a very early age, Medvedev said, “All the guys coming from Juniors, I feel like, the more the age group, the closer we are. It is a great competition between all of us.”
