Because of the ongoing fiasco with his visa cancellation and vaccination, it still isn’t confirmed whether he will participate in the Grand Slam. As Djokovic continues to struggle with the authorities, people from the tennis world have started picking sides.

Recently, former American tennis icon Jimmy Connors slammed Australian Open officials for not standing with Djokovic.

Jimmy Connors asks Australian Open to let Djokovic play

Record-breaking, nine-time Australian Open champion, Novak Djokovic is currently in immigration detention. The Serbian player has been in a row with officials over the vaccine rules for the upcoming Grand Slam.

Novak’s case has divided the tennis community, as many believe it was unfair for him to receive a medical exemption and that it showed signs of “special treatment.” However, as Novak fights for his medical exception, even a former Australian Open director backed him.

The Australian government has denied Novak entry into the country, claiming his visa did not approve of the medical exception. Former Australian Open director Paul McNamee disagreed with their decision.

Paul reacted, saying, “The guy played by the rules, he got his visa, he arrives, he’s a nine-time champion, and whether people like it or not, he’s entitled to fair play.
