Italian tennis sensation Matteo Berrettini is being highly missed at the ongoing Queen’s Club Championships where Carlos Alcaraz Garfia is trying to adapt his game to the grass court. The continuous absence of the Italian tennis star is troublesome for his fans. With no updates about his condition or his comeback, Italian tennis legend Nicola Pietrangeli is not going easy with his harsh criticism of his countryman.
Berrettini has dropped from the Top 30 of the ATP ranking chart. An Italian tennis hope is now sidelined and the former tennis star is not ready to accept it.

Former tennis legend bashes the form of Matteo Berrettini
The Italian tennis player gave an astounding performance on the court last year. With Stuttgart and Queen’s Club Championships titles on his side, he became the stalwart of the Italian tennis realm.
Berrettini is nowhere to be seen at this year’s Queen’s Club Championships to defend his title. Consequently, this has irked former Italian tennis legend, Nicola Pietrangeli.
In an interview with Notizie.com, he addressed the issue of Berretitini’s retirement. He stated, “Only Matteo knows when he will be able to play again, I hope that the rumor circulating, or that he is thinking of quitting, is not true.” He added, “It would be a drama for him and for Italian tennis.”

The tennis legend openly scoffed at Berrettini ignoring his talent. He stated, “He didn’t understand the luck he has, earns millions of dollars, and is squandering everything.” Adding to the brutal remark, he stated, “I honestly don’t feel sorry for it.”
The best he has performed this year has been at the Mexican Open. However, here too he went down to Danish player Holger Rune in the quarter-finals.

Adding to the fuel is the fact that Berrettini was playing for his third consecutive title at the Queen’s. The player expressed his dismay for withdrawing from the tournament because of his abdominal injury.
However, he has refuted any retirement plans by stating that he wishes to be back next year. Moreover, he came back to the court with his match against his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego at the Stuttgart Open.
