28-year-old Australian tennis ace Nick Kyrgios, unfortunately, withdrew from the 2023 French Open in the days leading up to it. Kyrgios was in the news in the buildup to the tournament for all the wrong reasons, as he sustained a foot injury during a robbery. However, despite being forced to watch the events unfold at the Stade Roland Garros from a distance, Kyrgios is still trying hard to be a part of the action. The Australian is using social media to great effect as he’s sharing his views on the matches with his followers.
However, the Australian’s latest tweet will do him no favors. Through his tweet, Kyrgios fired shots at Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka and rekindled a nasty feud that landed him in trouble all the way back in 2015.

At the 2015 Rogers Cup, Kyrgios encountered Wawrinka. At the time, Kyrgios was only 20 years old while Wawrinka was already an established player. However, Kyrgios’ talent was evident as he gave Wawrinka a tough fight in the first set. Unfortunately for Kyrgios, Wawrinka’s experience proved decisive as the Swiss took the first set. Following his first set loss, Kyrgios resorted to something very unsportsmanlike to unnerve Wawrinka.
Kyrgios’ latest tweet brought back the memories of that controversial moment as he aimed a sly dig at Wawrinka again. This time, Kyrgios’ focus was on the upcoming French Open encounter between Wawrinka and his 27-year-old friend, Greek Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Greek too, had unintentionally and unknowingly become embroiled in the 2015 spat between Wawrinka and Kyrgios.

What happened in 2015?
The 2015 Rogers Cup was where the feud between Kyrgios and Wawrinka started. After Wawrinka took the first set following a tight tiebreaker, both players began to walk back to their respective chairs. This is when Kyrgios told Wawrinka, “Kokkinakis b**ged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that mate”.
Wawrinka didn’t respond to Kyrgios immediately. However, following his eventual withdrawal from the match, Wawrinka didn’t mince words as he criticized Kyrgios in the worst way imaginable. The Swiss called out the Australian for being “disrespectful”. He also stated that he wouldn’t even say, what Kyrgios said to him, to his worst enemy. Last but not least, Wawrinka hoped for the ATP to take action against Kyrgios for his insensitive comments. The ATP duly obliged, and fined Kyrgios a whopping $10,000.
