It has been an emotional year for tennis, hasn’t it? The 2022 season has seen many superstars in the sport like Serena Williams and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga bid adieu to the tennis world. Further, one of the greatest players in the history of sport, Roger Federer, shocked one and all after he announced his decision to end his illustrious career.

As Federer took to social media to announce this decision, fans across the globe reacted, thanking the Swiss legend for all the wonderful memories. Additionally, his fellow players also congratulated Federer on a wonderful career. Among them was the Greece tennis star, Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 24-year-old took to Instagram to post a heartfelt note after Federer’s retirement announcement. Sharing their pictures, he said, “He came. We saw. He conquered. We admired.”

Further, he added, “Thank you @rogerfederer for elevating our sport to an unfathomable extent. For making this sport look so damn effortless, but complicated to emulate at the same time. Your style, personality, talent, finesse and passion will be remembered in the game of tennis forever!”

Talking about how he looked up to him, Tsitsipas said, “I can’t thank you enough for being the reason I pursued tennis in the first place. The reason I play a one-handed backhand today. The reason I dreamt for the first time watching you lift that Wimbledon trophy in 2004.”

Tsitsipas vs Federer: Head-to-Head

The Greece tennis star is one of the few players who has been able to match Federer during the battles against the Swiss maestro. In the five matches played between them, both players have won two matches apiece, while one match resulted in a walkover for Tsitsipas.
