In a recent talk, CoCo Vandeweghe shared doubts about Novak Djokovic being a top pick for the Australian Open. She mentioned Djokovic’s past wrist injury, which makes his return uncertain. While acknowledging Rafael Nadal‘s skills, she still sees him as a strong contender due to his champion status.

But Vandeweghe thinks Alexander Zverev might surprise everyone and become a favorite, calling him the dark horse and her personal pick for the tournament.

“Especially with Novak having the wrist injury that he had at the United Cup. I think there is always going to be a question mark. Seeing how Novak can return I don’t think he is going to be a favourite in my book. Rafael Nadal, but it’s hard to count a champion like that. My favorite honestly going in there is going to be Zverev, the Darkhorse,” said Vandeweghe.

This shows that some in tennis might not see Djokovic as the clear favorite anymore because of his injury. Vandeweghe believes Zverev could shine, bringing a new perspective to who might do well at the Australian Open.

One take at a time

In a world where player rivalries dominate social media conversations, I am someone who prefers to enjoy the skills showcased on the court rather than be involved in feuds over the greatness of players. Right from my early childhood, I have been engrossed by the legendary rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It turned me into a ?Fedal? fan and eventually, when I graduated from college, this fandom created an interest in covering their exploits on the court.
