A “super-fit” pickleball player suffered a near-fatal condition after playing pickleball

The 35-year-old local resident of Missouri, Joel Hentrich, recently tore a neck artery and suffered three strokes while playing pickleball. It happened when he turned his head “too quickly” while playing on the courts of the new racket game in the United States.

Speaking about it, in an interview with the New York Post, Hentrich said that he was totally shocked after nearly facing death while playing pickleball. It all started when the 35-year-old “super-fit” native of Festus went out for a regular game of pickleball with his friends. Other injuries in the new racket game community

The fast-growing sport is preferred by various athletes due to its game style and elements, which require less sprinting when compared to other racket games. On top of that, pickleball doesn’t necessarily require a lot of area, which makes it easier for athletes to travel across the court.

Despite all such advantages, there are many cases of players picking up serious injuries as reported by an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Warren Butterfield. According to him, wrist fracture is the most common injury troubling many pickleball athletes. The reason behind the same might be the aggressive movements of players who might slip while playing the new racket game. Apart from this, shoulder and elbow injury cases are also quite common, according to Butterfield.
