America has had a glorious history of tennis. There are several legends that the country has produced over the years. From the likes of Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, and Jimmy Connors, to the superstar Serena Williams. While the list of past achievements goes very long, the recent past has not been very good for US tennis.

Speaking particularly about the Men’s leg. It has been over ten years since an American won a Grand Slam title. Recently, tennis legend Ivan Lendl threw some light on the topic recently. Here’s what he said.

The legendary tennis star comes from an era when American tennis players were dominating the tennis world. However, in recent days, American men’s tennis has failed to produce a great tennis player. Although, on the other hand, they had Serena and Venus Williams who did a fantastic job, similar excellence was missing from the men’s leg. Here’s what Andy Murray’s coach had to say about the islfgsue in his latest spotify podcast.

“I think it’s difficult to criticize because winning majors, particularly in men’s tennis, is a lot harder than people think,” Lendl said.

He further added, “Everybody got spoiled by Pete and Andre and so on and they think that’s ok and be coming. You look at McEnroe with seven, Connors with eight, Andre with eight, Pete with fourteen, and then all of a sudden for ten years you have nothing well. You think the other guys can play well? They are a lot better than you think”

While Lendl is correct about the increasing competition, given their glorious past, America needs to do better in order to deal with the extremely talented young players coming from European countries.

Andy Roddick was the last man from the US to win a Grand Slam title

While Lendl claims that it is not as problematic as it seems, the last Grand Slam title for the US in the men’s category came way back in 2003. A 21-year-old Andy Roddick showed his excellence to clinch what everyone thought to be one of many more to come, Majors.

However, it unfortunately never happened. While Roddick had a brilliant career, he failed to repeat the feat. The American belonged to an era that had greats like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. While he was good, Federer seemed to be unbeatable for him.
