Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have now started to become the talk of the town in the tennis world. They have dominated the racquet sport in the past few months with their incredible feats. 3 out of 4 major titles of the 2024 season have been shared between them, with two going to Alcaraz. Can Sinner level it up and make it two each at the US Open? Time will tell, but for now, let’s have a look at what Serena Williams‘ former coach, Rick Macci, thinks about these two brightest prospects.

Rick Macci has always been a big fan of these youngsters. Previously, he stated that both Alcaraz and Sinner would dominate the tennis world for a long time and might become the new “Big Two” of the racquet sport. He strongly believes the duo has all the ingredients to become double-figure grand slam winners. “Sky is the limit for both these guys,” said Macci. Recently, the renowned coach sat down for an exclusive interview with ES and reflected almost the same opinion about the much-hyped duo.

Macci loves the way Alcaraz and Sinner push each other quite similar to the ‘Big Three‘. There was a time when Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer used to feature in the SF of every big tournament. Now perhaps it’s time for Alcaraz and Sinner to carry forward that legacy. “I look at Alcaraz and Sinner. I have no doubts they are going to have a bucket full and both of them will definitely be double-figure Grand Slams. Right now those are the two chosen ones,” said Macci on ES Exclusive. “Barring injuries, Alcaraz and Sinner might end up playing 50 to 60 times before this is all over,” the 69-year-old coach further went on to add.

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have now played against each other 60 times in their careers. Will Alcaraz and Sinner be trotting along the same lines? Perhaps yes, but there is still a long way to go. Carlos Alcaraz has, so far, won only 4 major titles in his career, while Sinner has managed to grab one. Does Macci have a special preference between these two though?

Carlos Alcaraz is a unique generational talent” – Rick Macci

Earlier Rick Macci had predicted, “Carlos Alcaraz will go to another level in 2024 and be a Grand Slam winner and the main reason is a guy named Sinner.” Guess what, this season, Jannik Sinner has already won 4 titles and has risen to the top of the men’s singles ranking. While Alcaraz has also won 3 titles this season including two major triumphs, he’s placed at no. 3 in the rankings. This is exactly what Macci wanted to highlight, that the duo will push each other to their limits and bring out the best of themselves.

If we take a closer look at Macci’s previous statements, we’d find Serena Williams’ ex-coach is quite fascinated with Alcaraz’s game. He strongly believes, “Carlos Alcaraz is a unique generational talent and a proven winner.” Macci once even hailed Alcaraz as, “The single most appetizing LIGHTNING BOLT to the tennis menu since the Compton Comets Venus and SERENA.

According to Macci, the tennis world has never seen anything like Alcaraz, as he believes Carlitos is more of a combination of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Agassi. What’s your take on this? Do you agree with Macci? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
